Plastic Industry Forum - Converse with Plastics Processing Leaders / Equipment / Fire Protection Coverage for Hydraulic Powered Machines

We have a mixture of hydraulic to fully electric injection molding machines.  The insurance company wants us to increase protection against a fire for the hydraulic presses.  Currently we are quoting installing heat detector sensors above each machine required that tie into the fire alarm panel, as well as the individual machine to stop oil flow.  The local fire department said a type B fire extinguishing agent is recommended.  Any one dealt with this before? What is the cheapest way to do it?

Steve, I don't have a direct answer, but I would encourage you to contact Rick Ludwig, CFO of Dekalb Molded Plastics.

Dekalb expereinced a large fire in their production area and had to basically rebuild a portion of it.  I would assume that Rick knows the latest in procedures and equipment.

Also, I've sent this posting to Jon Medo, National Account Manager of Federated Insurance to see if they might have a resource to help you.
