We are struggling to find gate cutters that will last longer than 1-2 days.  We are cutting gates < 1".  Our gate cutters currently come from IMS & IMS has been to our company to see what we are cutting & could not make any suggestions to improve the life of their cutters.  Would be interested to hear what tools others are using for cuts less than 1".

Hi Connie,

We do a good bit of automated gate cutting. We typically have round or rectangular gates. Our largest gates are 1/4" x 1/4". We use nipper bodies by JDV with very good success (months between blade changes typically). Here is the site for JDV: http://www.vesseltools.com/. They will also make custom blades for your application, but you will pay for that service.

Any gate cutting company should be able to make a good recommendation based on: Material being cut, gate cross section, and number of cuts per unit of time.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.

PPE makes some good cutters as well. We have used Heated gate cutters as well when cutting larger gates.

Steve Crescent has had good success with IMS Gate Cutters (133163 and 131481).
