We are going to attempt to have round-the-clock maintenance on site, but need to do some research as to hourly rates for 2nd and 3rd shift.  If you can't give me exact hourly pay rates, if you could just tell me how much more (on top of 1st shift) would you pay a 2nd shift maintenance tech, and a 3rd shift maintenance tech.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We offer the same base wage for all employees but offer a shift premium, it can be whatever you want, for those who work the off shift.  It works well.  We offer no shift premium for day shift employees.

We run 3 shifts, 5 days per week.  We are right outside of Knoxville, TN and offer a $.25 shift differential for operators and a $1 shift differential for Mold Techs (we don't have maint tech on off shifts but they are paid similar to mold techs).  HOWEVER, we are considering increasing the differential for 2nd shift above 3rd shift because, in this area of the country, 2nd shift is consistently the most difficult shift to staff since we have lots of families in this area.

The 2015 MAPP Wage and Benefits Report, analyzing compensation data from over 185 processors across the United States, revealed that 35% of the participants use a 2nd shift pay differential between 26-50 cents per hour; 24% of the respondents reported paying over 51 cents/hour more.

For the third shift pay differential range, 27% reported a pay increase of between 26-50 cents per hour; 31% of the respondents reported paying over 51 cents per hour more for working the night shift.

Note, this data is not specific for maintenance or any other job function.

Our 1st 2nd and 3rd shift base rates are the same.  However we offer a 15% shift premium for 2nd and 3rd shift on top of their base.  This is the same for all non-exempt job responsibilities.
