Do you use an internal naming scheme for your Raw Materials or just go by your material suppliers nomenclature?

We use our own numbering system  and in regards to the description we try to capture every letter and digit identical to the manufactures description. One digit off could mean a lot.

If making up your own description at some point there will be a cross reference print,table,etc.. so we attack at the beginning and eliminate this step.

Many systems just don't give you the characters you need for an accurate description creating the need for a drill down via other methods.

Hi Cindy, we use our own numbering system.  Usually we try to include a portion of the vendors number.   Resins start with R, Concentrates with C, Packaging with P, Hardware with H.  It was used a long time before computers and made it easy to quickly identify what parts were.  We just kept it
