We provide company cell phones to several individuals (in specific positions) in our organization. If you provide cell phones in your organization, who gets them?  What classifications?

Here at Richardson all department managers have cellphones. Personally I have my own and take care of that bill myself eventhough the company would provide me one. This way I have control of the features/plans I want. I find it eaier that way.

At York Imperial we pay the bills for all personell that have customer contact. We figure if you put your number on your business card to be contacted, it should be a company expense.

Rick, this report may not serve to answer your question directly, but several years ago MAPP published a report on cell phone usage within plastics manufacturing operations.

To find this report, you much logon.  Then simply go to the Member's Section of the website, hit the Benchmarking Tab, and you can find the survey under Human Resources surveys near the bottom.

If you thing creating a formal survey of MAPP Members will serve to help others, please contact me, and we can work together to create a new survey with the questions that match your needs.

About 20% of our workforce carries company-owned phones.  I've found that cell phones encourage communication and improve the efficiency of reaching the person you need when you need them.  Shared pools of minutes means we never pay for "overage" but you do have to watch the data and text message plans.  While our cellular costs have increased in the last 5 years, our long distance and use of internal paging have decreased.

We provide phones to certain key people in our operation and we pay for them. The HR department reviews the bills and addresses excessive personal use on an individual basis. We have yet to charge an employee for personal use. After having a conversation with them addressing excessive personal use the employee's have scaled back usage.
